Connector plastic housings may look simple, but small differences in shape, dimensions or molded appearance can affect downstream assembly. When production volumes increase, manual checks can also become difficult to apply consistently. This RKE application shows how machine vision can support a more repeatable inspection process for connector housings.

Stable Feeding Before Image Capture
The vibratory bowl feeder organizes incoming parts and guides them toward the inspection station. Stable feeding helps present components in a repeatable way, giving the cameras a more consistent view. It also supports continuous processing without requiring an operator to position every part by hand.

Multi-View CCD Inspection
The video shows nine CCD industrial cameras around the inspection area. Each view provides image information for a defined part feature or inspection angle. By combining multiple views, the system can examine different sides of the housing instead of relying on a single image. The final camera arrangement and inspection coverage depend on the customer’s part geometry and defect criteria.

AI Vision for Dimensions and Appearance
RKE’s self-developed AI deep-learning inspection software processes the captured images and classifies parts against configured criteria. In this application, the inspection can address critical dimensions and visible molding issues, including burrs and short-shot conditions. The inspection program can be configured around agreed samples, product drawings and defect definitions.
Inspection Results and Production Feedback
The software interface displays inspection images and OK/NG classifications, allowing operators to review results during production. The video shows a demonstrated speed of approximately 80 pieces per minute and an accuracy figure of ±0.01 mm. These figures apply to the application shown; actual performance depends on the part, inspection features, lighting, camera setup and acceptance criteria.
A Practical Approach to Connector Quality Control
Automated vision inspection can help manufacturers standardize repetitive checks, reduce dependence on manual visual judgement and identify defined defects before parts move to the next process. For a new project, the most useful starting point is to confirm the part drawings, samples, critical dimensions, defect limits and required production rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can a connector plastic housing inspection machine check?
Depending on the application, it can inspect dimensions, molded features and defined appearance defects such as burrs or short shots.
How many cameras are shown in this application?
The video describes an arrangement of nine CCD industrial cameras.
Is ±0.01 mm guaranteed for every product?
No. The video shows this figure for the demonstrated application. Suitability should be confirmed through sample testing and agreed measurement criteria.
